“When it comes to pipelines, intelligence means detecting leaks with the minimum number of sensors,” explains Olivier Fache, PVI’s Technical Manager. “At present, we are developing vibration sensors linked with computer programs capable of learning from experience.”
Using the data retrieved from an installed system, the software trains itself to recognise leaks and, based on experience, provides increasingly accurate results. “And this is just the start!” enthuses Olivier Fache. “Leak detection is just one of the possibilities for intelligence in valves. Ultimately, it means we can map an installed system and detect any inappropriate use.” The aim, of course, is to be able to detect vibration states that could warn of a future leak, in order to improve the predictive maintenance of installed systems.
